Iron sharpens Iron

At 5:50 this Wednesday morning, a colleague texts me and tells me she is "super excited" for me today.  I can think of few things I would be "super excited" about at that hour, but she thought to encourage me about the Teacher TECHshop I was going to host today.  During the session, our district technology specialist took time from her busy day to join our session and support our new endeavor.  Later this same day, I receive a tweet nudging me to participate in the #PISDbkclub edchat.  Each incident was a deposit in my capacity account.  I am amazed to see how much I am challenged, each day, to be better than I am and better than I thought I could be.  I am inspired by these events to look for opportunities to spur others on to take risks, to step out of their comfort zone, try on a novel idea for size, and build capacity in my fellow teachers.  In my small group, I often ask which is better, four brains or one brain.  Of course they say four brains (or however many are in our group).  So it is with teachers, collaborating with others makes us better as a collective whole than we could ever be individually.  We need the benefit of like iron in order to be sharpened ourselves.  In the end, we all benefit, especially our students.
